Topic: A good leader

I heard something interesting yesterday.

A Bat chief was describing what he wanted in a boss. For the most part he was talking about what he would like to see in a new chief.

He said:

"I want a chief to have four qualities:
- Be smart.
- Care about the job/fire service.
- Be nice. (Not be an ass type of boss.)
- Have balls. (Not be afraid to do what has to be done, including firing people.)"

These things struck me as qualities that are missing in some officers.

What do you think?

Re: A good leader

While I can't use all the same words, I would generally agree. Some people think the "leader" has to be educated more than all other troopies. Some think the leader should have more forward area experience ("I laid more gut than anyone else here"). Others just hope they can find favor with the new leader, so they can continue their merry ways of doing things.

Here's a spin-off of something I saw in another site. Few good decisions were ever made from a swivel chair! So the boss had better have several valuable qualities, kinda like your suggestion.
